Mind Gliding® Personal Development Workshops

Mind Gliding® programmes unlock the quality and skills from people's inner resources. Subject material provided by participants increases the significance and meaning derived from being involved in our programmes.

These programmes are based on the "5 elements of relationship model" of Professor Petruska Clarkson.

Confidence building

"How to improve your confidence without changing your personality"

In order to grow and develop, people often think that they will need to change in such a way that they will become a different person.

Of course, in order to create positive change, certain ways of thinking and behaviours have to be different. This process involves identifying the parts of a person that are useful and supportive, and using these as the basis for future growth and development. Once these positive elements in a person's make up have been strengthened, it becomes easier and less painful to look in more details at the not so positive parts of a person.

This workshop will facilitate this process, in which a transformation begins, and will equip you with skills and techniques for confidence to improve.

Letting Go

"Achieving more by using less energy"

Imagine a car trying to move forward with the brakes being applied at the same time.
This is how most people operate in life.

We frequently make determined efforts to move forward and achieve positive change in our lives. All too often we rapidly become disappointed at the lack of result from our efforts.

In many occasions people try to move on in life without letting go of material that belongs to another time and another place, redundant baggage. To move forward while carrying 'baggage' is an exhausting process. It leaves energy depleted when dealing with or facing any new opportunity.

This workshop will let you look at ways of safely letting go of redundant material and freeing up vital energy in order to fully enjoy any new experience.

Change your life around

"Get "Unstuck"

Are you feeling stuck in a rut? Getting up the same time everyday – same clothes in the closet – same breakfast (or lack of it)– same drive to work – same radio station – same people when you get there. The list could go on and on. You just feel like you are spinning your wheel like a hamster! Feeling like this takes all of your energy away?

This workshop can get you out of it!! You can do it and it's not as hard as you may think. Derail the mundane. Break out of the mould you have created. It just takes some initiative on your part.

You can change your life by changing your thoughts.

Many people feel anxious and frightened about change. We do not like leaving our 'comfort zone' no matter how bad it can be.

This workshop will introduce you to the concept that change can be seen as an opportunity to add more richness and vitality to your lives.

Also many people want to stop doing things that they realise are harming them, but either don't know how, or lack the 'will power'.

In our brains we have a 'magic switch', which when flipped, will enable any of us to stop whatever we want to stop.

This workshop will help you to find out where your switch is.

Stinking thinking

"Is the glass half full or half empty? "

If we see the world as a bad and dangerous place then that is what it will become for us. If on the other hand we see the world as a place that is full of exciting opportunities, that is what it will become for us.

Every situation in life has a 'good' or 'bad', positive or negative side. How we see that situation depends on how we feel at the time. We have much more choice in thinking than we realise. We can transform certain views of the world around us from negative to positive by using positive thinking techniques and practices.

This workshop provide ideas, suggestions and ways of seeing the world that will enable people to make a shift from negative thinking and perception into a more positive way of seeing and dealing what is happening.

Problem solving I

"Turning problems into opportunities"

When we encounter a problem, and do something that does not turn out the way we wanted it to, often that is a called a 'mistake'. This is an inappropriate label. What in fact has happened is that this kind of situation provides an opportunity to learn something.

"Anyone who has never made a mistake has never tried anything new." (Albert Einstein)

Very few people get things right all the time and yet so often we give ourselves a hard time when we do not get everything right all the time.

This workshop introduces a way of thinking about and reacting to these situations, that will bring about a sense of appreciation of what can be learned, rather than focussing on the negativity associated with what went 'wrong'.

Stress management

Stress has a very clear, tangible form. Countless people have actually suffered or benefited from it. Stress is very real and concrete indeed, and is manifested in precisely measurable changes within the body.

But stress does not always have to been seen as something negative. In fact, stress is a life energy force in the body and is the key ingredient in optimal performance. Positive stress is actually essential and beneficial and can be our strongest ally for leading stimulating healthy lives, filled with vitality and resilience.

The Nature of Stress
The nature of Stress

When unregulated, uncontrolled or ignored, stress can be harmful to your health and wellbeing; too little stress can lead to apathy, atrophy, fatigue and illness.

A major step toward successful stress management is to find and maintain a personal equilibrium, a balance that works for you at each stage of your life.

This workshop will provide you with a better understanding of what stress is and some practical skils and techniques to handle stress in a way that makes daily life a more pleasureable experience.

Assertivity

"Being Assertive — or am I just being selfish"

"Assertiveness is the ability to express yourself and your rights without violating the rights of others. It is appropriately direct, open, and honest communication which is self-enhancing and expressive. Acting assertively will allow you to feel self-confident and will generally gain you the respect of your peers and friends. It can increase your chances for honest relationships, and help you to feel better about yourself and your self-control in everyday situations. This, in turn, will improve your decision-making ability and possibly your chances of getting what you really want from life." (Adapted from University of Illinois Counseling Center)

A vital part of being assertive is to express your needs and wishes clearly. We often hear people say that it sounds like being selfish. This is not so.

This workshop will make you understand that a large contribution for being assertive comes from the ability to listen to the needs and wishes of another person. This presents opportunities to treat yourself and the other person with respect and it creates a situation where everyone 'wins'.

"This course has helped me enormously, on a personal level as well as on a business level. Now I build more honest and long-lasting relationships with my customers and I am now much more able to offer them what they need" T.S.

Assertiveness II - tailored to the client's need

Our programmes are tailored to meet the specific needs of a particular client and are delivered on a 1-2-1 basis at a mutually convenient venue.

Our assertiveness programme has four elements -

  • An introduction to assertiveness
  • Definition of assertiveness
  • Assertive techniques and practices
  • Being assertive in everyday life
Each of these elements has some theoretical input which is always linked to case material provided by the client. We find this approach increases the relevance of the material to the life of the individual client and equips them with tools that can be used to make a positive difference in their everyday life.

We also acknowledge the client's current abilities and use these as the basis for developmental work.

"Wisdom – what is it?....and where to find more "

Wisdom is what we know. It is the sum total of what has been perceived, discovered, guessed, and concluded. Every individual has accumulated specific resources of quality and skills.

Each of us has a huge amount of wisdom within us. So often we do not appreciate this, and embark on a quest to look outside ourselves to find and discover the wisdom that we feel we lack.

This workshop encourages people to look inside and discover the vast treasure trove of wisdom that exists inside each of us. It also makes some suggestions as to how that acknowledged wisdom can become part of everyday life.
