There are five important decisions to be made.

1. Decide which Networking event to attend

You need to network with people you see as potential customers or who could refer you to potential customers.

2. Decide who you will be talking to

Get a list of attendees and highlight useful contacts and potential customers.

3. Decide if you are talking to the right person.

Ask yourself: "The person I am talking to, is he/she likely to give me business?"
- If not, move on.
- If yes, exchange information.

4. Decide which contacts you are going to follow-up

Do your research before starting any 'Relationship Capital' building. Check leads out, before you make contact.

5. Decide on a strategy for non productive business contacts

Use guidelines such as “after 7 contacts – no result!” cease following up.
